Population Geography
Our purpose in this book is to provide students with ab=n introduction to the field of population geography, a task that requires drawing upon materials from many disciplines and integrating them into a text. We begin with a look at population growthbecause we feel that it sets the tone for generating an interest in the study of population.Following that, we look at demographic data, which are so essential to helping us understand population precesses. We then consider population distribution and compositioning, followed by discussions of major theories of population growth and change. The focus turns to the basicdemographic processes of mortality, fertility and migration, leading to a discussion of urbanization. The next two chapters deal with the relationship between population and the environment and with problems of population and food supply. A final chapter provides applications of population findings and presents three case studies.
