Study on estimating the amount of empty fruit bunch using remote sensing techniques
This research is focused to estimate and distinguish oil palm stands age based on crown/canopy density obtained using forest canopy density (FCD) model derived from four indices as follows, advanced vegetation index, bare soil index, shadow index, and thermal index.
the result for single date data and multi temporal image analysis was shows if there is no obvious difference in the number of classes, which are only have four class that there is no obvious difference in the number of classes, which are only have four clas that are seed, young teen, and mature. The difference between single and multi-temporal image analysis has stand age value range between 4-9 years old but in time series analysis this class was change into 1-9 years old.
This methodology could be applied for another area which have different characteristic such as Sumatera and Kalimantan tha are as know as the biggest location for oil palm plantation in Indonesia. Different characteristic of soil type and climate also diversity of stnds age in that island compare with research location could be as the parameter fordetailing the class of oil palm stands age.
