Spectral methods in geodesy and geophysics
This book offers a rigorous treatment of spectral methods using Fourier-based techniques in the geosciences, speciafically gedesy and geopysics that deal with global and regional spatial data. The overall goal is to give students the facility to think about and process spatial data in the corresponding spectral domain, especially on the plane and sphere. However, the road taken to that objective is based on the more simple one-dimensional Cartesian domain, since much carriers directly over, at leat conceptually, to these higher dimensions. The book includes the analysis of stochastic processes in Cartesian and spherical domains, wihc are important for estimation problems based on stochasis constraints in inverse theory, such as leastquares collocation. In the final chapter, the developed spectral to geopotential fields, as well as Earth's morphology, and their interactions in geodesy and geophysics.
