Reduction of latitude, longitude and azimuth to the conventional International origin (Bulletin No.3, September 1973)
Since the rotational axis of the earth does not have a fixed position in the body of the earth, the results of astronomical observations of latitude, longitude and azimuth are effected by this movement. Latitude, longitude and azimuths obtained from astronomical observations at a certain time thus rofer to the instantaneous pole (the intersection of the earth's rotational axis with the celestial sphere) and will be designated as instantaneous latitude, longitudes and azimuths respectively. To be freed from ambiguities these instantaneous values must be reduced to fired reference pole, before 1968 the so called B.I.H. mean pole and since 1968 the so-called conventional International Origin (CIO).
