An airborne laser profiling system has been developed to provide terrain profile data economically using fixed wing aircraft with standard aerial camera ports Designed to acquire ground profiles for applications such as route profiling, cross-sectioningand vertical control for topographic mapping, the system rovides significant cost savings in time and field work, and readily incorporates vertical point' and terrain profile identification together with accurate horizontal positioning using on-board cameras and satellite positioning.The system was used to provide vertical control for 1:50,000 topographic mapping in Indonesia - a brief description, complete with results, is presented.
